In one of the few instances of normalcy the NBA has hoped to maintain during the pandemic-strained 2020-21 season, the 70th annual All-Star Game will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 7 to give fans a chance to see the league's best players all compete on the same floor.
Despite some reservations from high-profile players over health concerns, the NBA is pushing full-steam ahead toward hosting the event. The league plans to create a "mini-bubble" for players and coaches to quarantine in while utilizing "enhanced PCR testing." Fans won't be permitted to attend any of the All-Star festivities.
The NBA's tribute to the late Kobe Bryant will continue with adjusted rules that include turning off the game clock in the fourth quarter to produce a more competitive finish like the one produced in 2020. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and the Brooklyn Nets' Kevin Durant will serve as captains, drafting their respective teams without observing conference lines.
As part of the NBA's larger effort to take on racial inequities across the U.S., the league has committed over $2.5 million in donations and resources to Historically Black Colleges and Universities in addition to honoring HBCUs during the event.
